This tour is for anyone who wants to know Brazil and Rio in depth through the wonderful art spread across the city. You will see how Rio's street art began as graffiti in the outskirts, protesting social inequality, and grew into a whole range of expression that made Rio one of the world's great street art landmarks. By tram and on foot we explore Santa Teresa, the historic hilltop district, and neighbouring Lapa, the beating heart of it all: the Selarón Steps, the Lapa Arches, and the murals and graffiti covering bohemian streets, artist studios and colonial lanes.
You will also reach authentic corners of these neighbourhoods where tourists rarely wander. Want to stay on in Santa Teresa and Lapa afterwards? The guide shares his best tips for bars, restaurants, museums and events.
